5 years back , my dad underwent surgery for spondylosis for the 2nd time. The first time was painful enough. My dad's neck was cut open from the back side the first time they did the surgery. My dad still has that scar from the surgery. The pain he felt after the 2nd surgery was inexpressible. Yet , he never complained about it infront of anyone. But we knew. We could feel it.
More than him, I could see the pain and fear in my mother's eyes. I could see how her eyes turned moist everytime my dad used to wince due to the pain.
A lot of guests came over to visit my dad to see how he was doing. A lot of relatives who didn't came during the surgery or even called before showed up at our door expecting the “respect” they “deserve” just because they are older to us.
Yet , I saw my mom and dad showing no hatred towards them. My mom served tea and made food for all of them. My dad made small talks with everyone inspite of the excruciating pain that he was dealing with during that time.
That day , I realised 3 things in my life :-
1)Its easier to hate someone rather than forgiving them. But forgiving someone is the best thing that you can do for yourself, if not for others.
That day , I swore to try to not hate anyone. I'll fight against everything that will force me to hate anyone. Even if it is Him, I'll fight with Him too.
2) We may have a lot of problems in our life but we don't have to complain about it infront of everyone. Put a smile on your face and let the world wonder the reason behind it.
3) I'll never know how many things do I have to learn from my mom and dad because they never fail to teach me something even from the simplest of things that they do.
Hope it helps☺

I was in Chandigarh when this incident happened. One evening, I was walking through a park when a kid selling bubble toys came to me and asked me to buy it, I simply said what will I do with it and refused to buy it, but he kept on insisting. So, I offered him money without taking his sell. To my amazement, he refused to accept it. His friends ridiculed him to be a fool of not accepting the free money. I also egged him on to just take it but he again replied in nay, and said he can't accept anything (for free), unless I buy something from him. Finally, I had to buy the toy just for the sake he takes the money.
I was left perplexed after this incident. At first, I thought may be money is not everything…happiness comes from inside...and that it is just another temptation etc etc etc...but a much deeper internalization gave me another insight.
Money is not evil. It may not be the only thing that can make you happy, but its flow is necessary!! It is how you make the flow makes it a fortune or an evil.
Anything done rejecting the ethos of one's life may give one momentary pleasure but the soul can never be at peace with such deceit.
There are several means to make a living but the one which are framed by dignity and self respect lasts the longest!!
That kid may be too naive or young or not clever enough not to extract the gratis money, but I feel he was wise enough not to take it...to hold his values strong even in extremes…to uphold the tranquility of the forces of conscience inside.
P.S: An hour later, I again saw him in the market but he didn't recognize me and came again, selling his toys to me…and guess what!! I have two of them now :)
