What happened that day was different. There we were going through our normal routine when it happened. An explosion like no other explosion erupted throughout the town. When I was trying to duck for cover many rocks and bricks almost fell on me though I was lucky, unlike some other people. Some had injuries and some people; we didn't even know where they were. The army arrived a day later, searching through the rubble that our town had become. They found bodies of the missing towns folk under massive piles of destruction, some alive, some not.

I wanted my family, not knowing where my mum and dad were, if they were going to be pulled out from under one of the giant rocks. I was worrying about that for days until mum and dad found me sitting inside one of the buildings that the army had turned into a temporary shelter for survivors. We were so happy to see one another alive and all right.

Day after day more people were found trapped, starving or dead. They had to set up most of the town as a temporary hospital to treat the injured and the sick as there were so many people with problems. Some of the injuries were life threatening but many people were in a stable condition. Everyone is hoping the best for them.

Now after months of rebuilding and getting back to our old lives, things are still not the same. Everyone has that frightening memory of what happened that day and what we have lost because of it. But just because we have lost something does not mean we haven't gained something. We have all come together as a town into one big family of people looking out for each other when times are hard and bringing hope back into people's lives who think there is no going forward. This is what happened and how it changed our lives for better and for worse.
