Margie's face was all suffused with a glow. it was her birthday today! she quickly got up from bed, changed her night gown, and without losing another moment, dashed down the stairs to the drawing room to see what presents were in store for her.
in the drawing room, she was disappointed to see that there were no presents for her. usually mum and dad gifted her with loads of presents, all wrapped in brown packages and neatly stacked on top of the table. had they forgotten that her birthday was today?
but her disappointment turned to surprise when she realised that the curtains weren't drawn and even the lights were turned off. surely not everyone had slept in! atleast not on her birthday!
she quickly ran upstairs to her parent's bedroom. she peeped in through the keyhole, and to her utter astonishment, she saw that the room was empty! she tried to unlock the door, and found that it was already open. curious and curiouser! where were they?
she searched all the rooms, but in vain. after twenty minutes of a frantic search, she decided that it was hopeless. maybe they were gone! they were supposed to take Margie to the new restaurant, and maybe they forget to take her along. but Margie reasoned with herself, surely they couldn't forget her. they haven't even given her the presents yet!
she again went down to the drawing room, and sat herself on the sofa. she covered her eyes with her hands, and started to weep.
but suddenly, the lights turned on and the curtains were drawn! Margie opened her eyes, and saw her mum and dad standing in front of her, a big smile spread all over their face. They laughed. then her father sang 'Happy birthday' in a loud booming voice, while her mother joined in too. Margie was clearly confused.
"but I searched everywhere for you, even in the garden!", Margie exclaimed.
"we just wanted to give you a surprise, sweetheart", her mother explained.
" oh good, I thought that you had forgotten about my birthday", Margie heaved a sigh of relief, " but I'm so glad that you remembered!"
" we could never forget about you", her father chided in and gave her a big hug.
" now would you like to see your presents?", her mother asked
