Two friends once lived in a small village. Life was hard and they often had to till the farms throughout the year so that their families do not go hungry. However, among the two friends, Hari was a very determined person while the other friend, Poe, had very little determination. Nonetheless, they both were simple and honest man.
They often complained how life was cruel and talked about how they wanted to give a better life to their families. One day, Hari came up with an idea and asked Poe what if they worked extra hours at someone else's farm after they were done at their own farms. Hari hoped that they could earn some extra income but Poe immediately declined to such proposition saying that they wouldn't even earn a handful of grain.
But Hari was fixated with the idea and he started looking for work the next day itself. He started working at someone else's farm after he finished his own work while Poe left for home earlier than him. This kept on going for months and Poe would sometimes tell Hari to give up his extra work but Hari would tell him how fit and capable he still was.
Finally after a year, when it was Christmas, Hari came to Poe's house and gifted him a watch that Poe always wanted. Poe was surprised to receive such a gift and asked Hari how he managed to buy him the watch. Then Hari just gave him a smile and said that it was bought with the money he saved from his extra work. Poe couldn't believe but felt so happy for Hari's strong determination. That day he learnt that people who want a pearl must dive deep into the ocean and from the coming year, he joined Hari and they both worked extra hours daily.
