The chapter reflection of light begins with the phenomenon of light. Light is a phenomenon which helps us to see things around us. Light bounces back when it hits any object. The property of bouncing back of light is called reflection. When light reaches different objects and bounces back, helps us to see those objects. The ray of light before bouncing is called incident ray and when it bounces back, it is called reflected ray. The imaginary perpendicular to the surface is called normal to the surface.. collection of rays of light is known as beam of light.
There are 2 laws of reflection:-
The first law says that the angle of incidence and angle of reflection are always equal to each other.
The second law states that the incident ray, the reflected ray and the normal to the surface, they all lie in the same plane. [This same plane refers to the same alignment].

• The summary of the chapter reflection of light can be sketched as :-
→ The phenomenon of bouncing back of light in the same medium after striking the surface of a plane surface or a rough surface is termed as reflection.
→ Mostly the reflecting side of a plane mirror is plated by silver metal.
→ There are basically two laws of reflection that are applicable on both smooth and rough surfaces:-
(a) LAW I :- when light is incident on a mirror it is reflected from the mirror in such a way that angle of incident is equal to angle of reflection .
(b) LAW II :- the incident ray , reflected ray and the normal at the point of incident all lie on the same plane .
→ Basic optical device that is used for reflection is mirror and there are two types of mirrors:-
I} plane mirror.
ll} spherical mirror.
