ANSWER : - In 1880's Charles Darwin and his son Francis Darwin started experiments that there are certain chemicals that may be involved in the process of sensation in plants.
Later it was speculated that some chemical passed on from tip to the region of growth bringing about the response. The presence of the chemical was later confirmed. It was isolated tested and named as Auxin.
