EATING LUNCH WITH MY FRIENDS

Break in-between continuous work comes as a long- awaited tonic. No wonder, students too are found eagerly waiting for their lunch-break during their long, regular study- Periods. The bell for the recess makes them spring to activity. It provides a welcome relief and change from studies and makes them run to eat and play outside.

Students move out of their classrooms excitedly with their tiffin-boxes in their hands. They sit down with their friends in the corridors of the school to have their lunch together. Those without lunch-boxes make a bee-line to the canteen to buy snacks for themselves. Many rush to the canteen, after having their home-cooked food, for a cold drink or an ice-cream.

Most children finish-off their lunch fast. Without losing any time, they move to play and then comes the noisiest time in the school. It is the time when you find nothing except chattering, laughing and playing.

Some play badminton or rounder to catch each other. Others play hide-and-seek in the corridors. The only responsible children at that time are the prefects. Each of them keeps a watch on the closed door of the room so that nobody enters; for students are prevented from entering the classrooms during recess. Some prefects join in the play with an eye on the empty classrooms side by side.

Then there are those students who have a test after the break on a particular day. They are seen fully absorbed in revising the lesson. They look with jealousy at others playing and wish they did not have the test after recess. There are also those who are too playful to bother about the test and join their friends in fun and frolic.

Finally, the bell rings, signaling the end of recess. Students run to the nearest water-tap to have the last drink before entering the classroom. Then they rush to their respective classes, hoping to be in before the teacher. Soon the ground and corridors are empty of students. The only audible noise is that of the teachers’ footsteps, walking briskly to the classrooms.

Thus, recess is a time for rest, relaxation and play which is welcomed by all. It helps, specially the students, to free themselves from the tension of the classroom and prepare them for another two hours of study.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT WHERE I LIVE

In my opinion, one of the most attractive things about my place is our park. We have a very large park that runs through the middle of the city. This park is a wonderful place. It provides us with many opportunities for outdoor activities, it is free to use, and, because it is so large, it is easy to get to from any part of the city. Everyone can take advantage of its benefits.

Anyone who enjoys outdoor activities will enjoy making use of our city park. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and baseball diamonds. There are hiking trails and bike trails. There is even a skateboard park. In addition, the city offers tennis lessons at an affordable rate and also sponsors teams for organised sports. At the nature center, there are guided nature walks as well as a lot of interesting information on observing nature in the park. No matter what your interest, the park has something for everyone.

It doesn’t cost anything to use the park. It is available to everyone, even to people who are not city residents. No entrance fees are charged, and no fees are charged for using any of the facilities. The only things that cost money are tennis lessons and other special classes. Those things, of course, are optional, and most activities that people enjoy in the park do not cost anything at all . This makes it possible for anyone, rich or poor, to take advantage of what the park has to offer.

It is very easy to get to the park from almost any part of the city. Several bus routes run through the park, and there are also two subway stations, one at the south end and one near the north end. No matter what part of the city you live in, you can get to the park by public transportation. You can also drive your own car, of course, if you choose.

Our city’s park is a resource that all city residents can enjoy. It offers many types of recreational activities, it is free to use, and it is easy to get to. I think it is one of the city’s greatest assets.
