SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

 \vec{AB}

with A(−7,5) and B(−3,−7) in component form.

EVALUATION

Let O be the origin

Here the given points are A(−7,5) and B(−3,−7)

So

\vec{OA} =  - 7 \hat{i} + 5 \hat{j}

  \vec{OB} =  - 3 \hat{i}  - 7 \hat{j}

Now

 \vec{AB}

 =  \vec{OB} -  \vec{OA}

  = (- 3 \hat{i}  - 7 \hat{j}) - ( - 7 \hat{i}   + 5 \hat{j})

  = - 3 \hat{i}  - 7 \hat{j}  + 7 \hat{i}  -  5 \hat{j}

  = 4 \hat{i}  -  12 \hat{j}

So the required component form is ( 4, - 12 )
