Explanation:

Narration means the art of storytelling, and the purpose of narrative writing is to tell stories. Any time you tell a story to a friend or family member about an event or incident in your day, you engage in a form of narration. In addition, a narrative can be factual or fictional. A factual story is one that is based on, and tries to be faithful to, actual events as they unfolded in real life. A fictional story is a made-up, or imagined, story; the writer of a fictional story can create characters and events as he or she sees fit.

The big distinction between factual and fictional narratives is based on a writer’s purpose. The writers of factual stories try to recount events as they actually happened, but writers of fictional stories can depart from real people and events because the writers’ intents are not to retell a real-life event. Biographies and memoirs are examples of factual stories, whereas novels and short stories are examples of fictional stories.

Know Your Purpose

Because the line between fact and fiction can often blur, it is helpful to understand what your purpose is from the beginning. Is it important that you recount history, either your own or someone else’s? Or does your interest lie in reshaping the world in your own image—either how you would like to see it or how you imagine it could be? Your answers will go a long way in shaping the stories you tell.

Ultimately, whether the story is fact or fiction, narrative writing tries to relay a series of events in an emotionally engaging way. You want your audience to be moved by your story, which could mean through laughter, sympathy, fear, anger, and so on. The more clearly you tell your story, the more emotionally engaged your audience is likely to be.

The Structure of a Narrative Essay

Major narrative events are most often conveyed in chronological order, the order in which events unfold from first to last. Stories typically have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and these events are typically organized by time. Certain transitional words and phrases aid in keeping the reader oriented in the sequencing of a story. Some of these phrases are listed

Answer:

he silence of the evening was broken when I heard my sister’s shrill cry. I was in the room next to her’s and had to run to see what had happened. When I went to the room, I saw lying on the floor in the most perplexed position I had ever seen. My sister had sprained her leg while trying to copy a dance routine.

This wasn’t the first time she had sprained her leg and this wasn’t the first time she was going to give up. that was the deal with my sister. She pursued something with all her heart till the time she sprained her leg. Last month she was into basketball but she gave it up as soon as she sprained her leg. the month before that, she was into swimming. I do not know how one could sprain their leg while swimming, but my sister did. It is difficult for me to remember all the things that she pursued because the list is too big.

Sometimes when I see her, I feel like the older sister. There is only one thing I am really passionate about and that is music. I love listening to and making music. It’s funny how my sister can be so passionate about something and be completely indifferent about it as soon as she has sprained her leg.

Her fickleness was what annoyed me. This nature of her’s was not limited to her “passion”. It transcended to the colour of her hair. Her hair colour changed every month! Sometimes I even pitied her hair for all the damage that she did to them. That’s my sister. Too fickle.

Another thing that kept changing with the colour of her hair was her man. At the beginning of the month she had a new lover and every month ended in tears for her. It had become like a drill for the rest of the family. At the end of each month, everybody in the house was employed to console the broken hearted one and she was brought ice cream. Every time she promised herself that she would not fall into the trap but that never helped. In the next two days, she would find herself attached to yet another man, only to be left heartbroken. Again. As a child, I always thought that she was only putting up an act to get more ice cream. Now I know, that is how she is.

My sister is naive and gullible. She is fickle. She is too good. She thinks changing her hair colour gives her a new start. She thinks a new man is a new her. She is dependent and she thinks that’s cute. She changes her passion to suit the man’s preference. The sprain is only an excuse to discontinue her activities after the break up.

When I looked at my sister lying on the ground, I was tempted to click a picture of her in her deplorable state, as a joke. I realised what this sprain meant. This meant that someone had dumped her this time. This meant that she was not in a relationship with that someone anymore. This meant that her eyes were finally off the man I so wanted for myself. She won’t be seeing him anymore.

I knew this would work. I knew coating the floor with talcum powder would work wonders. I knew she would slip and fall. I knew that I could get him to leave her. I knew I could win. Yes. At the end of the day, it is about winning. I did not want to lose. Especially not to my sister. I hate for being so fickle. I hate her for assuming that everything will work in the way she wants it to and I hate her most for trying to have what should be mine.

So this time, I let her lie on the ground and think about her life.
