Answer:

It was my sister’s reception. The whole day of the wedding was filled with enjoyment, joy, and a state of feeling happy and nice. The reason for all this was marriage.

Still in India for a girl, marriage at the right time is a boon and happiness in the family. The boy’s family and our family exchanged gifts and sweets.

My sister’s husband presented her with many jewels. Her mother in law gifted her with a diamond ring and she wore it on her finger, and she blessed her with all niceties that one can spell out.

My sister was really blessed to be amidst such nice people, and I was also happy for her and I thanked God for giving her such a nice family as in-laws.

Everything went out as planned. After the reception, we were all leaving home by our car, then the worst thing happened. The ring gifted by my sister’s mother in law slipped from her finger and fell down in the sand where we were standing.

My sister and I immediately started searching but silently, for we did not want to create a panic and commotion and I was sure people would start passing negative comments. I assumed that nobody would have seen us searching, as we did not show anything on our face.

But little did I know that two eyes were watching and observing us. It was none other than my sister’s mother in law. She came very silently beside us and enquired about our searching; we could do nothing but tell the truth of losing the ring.

Some people are good just like that and my sister’s mother in law was one such lady. She just asked everybody to leave, except my brother in law, his sister, her mother -in law and me.

We searched using a brighter light and by God’s grace, it was tugged into my sister’s saree. My mother in law asked my sister not to worry and she said "Sheetal, always remember. Our bond is more important, not the ring. Holding each other’s hand and walking into the home and living and enjoying every moment of our lives in each other’s company is what I want. Losing the ring is the least in our lives. You will always be my daughter in law through thick and thin. Enjoy your day with my son. Your sister and I will take another car back home. Naresh, drive my daughter back home carefully and quickly too."
