The types of endocrine glands are:
(1)Pituitary gland:-
location -Pituitary gland is situated under the brain within the small bony cavity, the Sella turcica of the sphenoid bone.
Secretion - Hormones are secreted from Pituitary gland.
Functions - Pituitary gland is reffered to as master gland because it controls and regulates many functions of the body through the hormone that it produces, including: growth and reproductive development and function.
(2) Thyroid gland:-
Location -Thyroid gland is the largest endocrine gland of human body. The thyroid gland of man consists of two lateral lobes that lie on either side of the roof of trachea. They are usually connected by a thin middle lobe called Isthmus.
Secretion -Thyroid gland secretes thyroxine.
Functions -It plays a major role in the metabolism, growth and development of the human body.
(3)Adrenal gland :-
location -A pair of roughly triangular human adrenal glands are situated on the upper pole of each kidney. So it is known as Suprarenal gland. Each adrenal gland consists of outer cortex and inner medulla.
Secretion -The adrenal gland secretes adrenaline and noradrenaline.
Functions - Adrenal gland helps us to regulate metabolism and blood pressure through various other hormones. It also helps us in contraction and relaxation of human heart.
