Simon Cowell would be good to talk about, maybe. Not my favourite 'personality', but nevertheless XD

I'm unable to post a full essay here, unfortunately, so here's an article that might help you. Look into his shutting down of dog farms and his battle against the Yulin Dog Meat festival online for more helpful information.

Simon Cowell, the tough judge of reality TV has recently shown that he has a soft side to him too when it comes to the treatment of animals. The host of the popular show American Idol donated a generous sum of £25,000 ($32,640) to shut down a dog farm in South Korea.

Simon’s generosity to the Humane Society International (HSI) has helped the charity in saving more than 200 dogs from ending up as a dish on the dinner table of someone’s home. Dog farms for the purpose of breeding dogs for the slaughterhouse are commonplace in countries like Korea, China and some other parts of Asia. The practice of eating dogs has been prevalent for many years in these countries as part of their culture.

Dogs are usually bred in barren metal cages where they spend their whole lives till it is time for them to be slaughtered either by electrocution or hanging.

Clair Bass Executive Director HSI UK said, “Simon’s generous donation means the world to us and provides a huge boost to our appeal to close this horrendous dog meat farm.”

However, with more awareness campaigns being launched by activists, South Koreans are becoming more empathetic to the plight of ‘man’s best friend.’ In fact, 70 percent of South Koreans today do not eat dog meat. The government has not yet imposed a complete ban on the consumption of canine flesh, which is probably a little difficult to do, given the cultural ties but some measures have been put in place to put a check on the living conditions of these animals.

The Humane Society has so far been able to close a total of 12 dog meat farms in South Korea and has saved about 1,400 dogs, but the organization says that there are still thousands of dog factory farms across the country. 2.5 million dogs are bred across the 17,000 dog meat farms in a year.

When a farm is closed down by the charity, the owners are not left high and dry but are exposed to and taught an alternate means of earning such as setting up a chili or mushroom farm. The charity hopes that their efforts will not go unnoticed by the government who they hope will eventually follow their lead in phasing out the dog industry.

Bass said, “With every dog farm we close and every farmer we help to switch to a more profitable, humane business, we’re showing the South Korean government that it’s possible to end this cruel trade.”

Simon Cowell who is the loving owner of Yorkshire terriers has long supported HSI. In fact, in 2017 he had spoken out in support of the Humane Society’s #EndDogMeat campaign, on the Good Morning Britain show. He told the host of the show that consuming a dog would be similar to “eating your friend.”

The dogs that Simon helped in saving were transported to shelters in Canada, the US, the Netherlands and the U.K. where the charity hoped they would find loving homes.

Bass said in a statement, “These poor dogs have had the worst lives so far, so we’re desperate to get them out of those cages and show them love, soft beds and loving arms for the first time in their lives.”

Fans of Simon were so inspired by his gesture that they raised another £25,000 to match his donation.
