Later he returned to Samos to teach, but soon migrated westward to Siscily, and finally settled in the Greek colony of Crofton in Southern part of Italy.
His top students formed the Pythagorean Society and only to them the teachings or secrets of the society were divulged. The member of the society were placed under oath never to reveal the secrets of the Pythagoreans. The geometry of Pythagoras consists of a system of assumptions upon which he based his reasoning in geometry. His name is familiar to students because of his famous theorem relating to a right angled triangle.
" The square on the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides. "
