Bindusara was the son of Chandragupta Maurya. He defeated the ruler of 16 kingdom and added their lands to his empire. Under him , the Mauryan empire spread across the whole of the Indian subcontinent, except for Kalinga and a few kingdom in South . The Mauryan were friendly with the kingdom of South.

In 297 BC, Chandragupta was succeded by his son Bindusara. He was known to the Greeks as Amitrochates. Bindusara campaigned in the peninsula as far as South Mysore.

He conquered the land between the two seas', the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. However Kalinga on the Eastern Coast, remained hostile and was conquered in the succeeding reign by Bindusara 's son Ashoka
