Answer:

In the Magadhan army of the Nandas, there was a general named Chandragupta Maurya. When Alexader the great died in 323 B.C, Chandragupta Maurya gathered a small army under the advice and guidance  of his friend, philosopher and guide, Chanakya and defeated the greek governers and conquered the whole of Punjab. He was able to drive the greeks out of Punjab. After this success and strengthening his position in Punjab, Chandragupta Maurya gathered a powerful army. He invaded Magadha. The Nandha rulers of Magadha, had become quite unpopular with their subjects. Their administration was weak and inefficent. Chandragupta Maurya took adavantage of the situation in Magadha and once again succeeded in defeating Dhana Nandha, the last Nandha ruler in 322 B.C nad he became the ruler of Magadha. He became the founder of the Mauryan dynasty. Chandragupta invaded many places and he built up a vast empire in all parts of India up to Deccan. Chandragupta was one of the most remarkable characters. He became a Jain ascetic and starved himself to death. He was a very lovable emperor, who had a great personality, with many outstanding dimensions. His son was Bindusara and Bindusara's son was Ashoka the great.
