Commensalism is an association between two organisms in which one benefits and the other derives neither benefit nor harm.

Example:

1.One of the popular examples of commensalism is the relationship between cattle egrets and livestock. The cattle egret is a common species of heron that is found in most regions of the world, and is mostly seen moving along with herds of cattle.

2.The remora rides attached to sharks and other types of fish. The remora benefits by gaining a measure of protection, and it feeds off of the remains of the meals of the larger fish.

Commensalism :

It is a type of relation between 2 species in which among the two, one gets benefited while the other is not benefited and even not harmed.

Here, only one species gets benefited and there is no any effect on the other one.

Examples :

i) Orchid which grows upon tree of mango. Here, the orchid gets the benefit as they get shelter as well as support.

ii) Clown fish dwelling on the body of sea anemone. Here, the clown fish gets benefited. As stinging tentacles are present on sea anemone so dwelling on them provides protection to the clown fish from predators.
