A xylem tissue consists of the following components :

• Xylem tracheids : They are elongated dead cells and have narrow cavity inside them.
• Xylem Vessels : They have perforated cells which have huge cell cavity.
• Xylem fibres : They elongated dead cells and have lignified cell wall.
• Xylem parenchyma : They all living cells with thin cell walls.

The xylem tissues have following functions :

• Conduction of water from roots to different parts of the plant.
• Mechanical support to the plant.

They are found in the vascular system of the plant, that is centrally located in the plant.
