DNA replication

The replication is the process of formation of identical

copies of duplex using parent DNA as its template. It is

an autocatalytic function. It occurs during S phase of cell

cycle in eukaryotes. In prokaryotes it occurs continuously

in the cytoplasm. Watson and Crick (1953) proposed semi-

conservative DNA replication in which one half of the

daughter DNA in duplex is derived from the parent and other half is newly prepared. Here both the strands of DNA act as templates and produce new complementary chains. The new chains get permanently associated with the templates forming two double stranded replicas.

Answer:

In molecular biology, DNA replication is the biological process of producing two identical replicas of DNA from one original DNA molecule. DNA replication occurs in all living organisms acting as the most essential part for biological inheritance

Explanation:

DNA replication is the process by which a double-stranded DNA molecule is copied to produce two identical DNA molecules. ... Once the DNA in a cell is replicated, the cell can divide into two cells, each of which has an identical copy of the original DNA.
