Honouring a ‘Karmayogi’

New Delhi, November 11, 2016: The Apeejay Stya & Svran Group commemorated the 97th Birth Anniversary of Dr Stya Paul (4th Oct. 1919 – 7th June 2010) on November 11, 2016, at Apeejay School, Sheikh Sarai. Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, President, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chairman, Apeejay Education Society and Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, honoured her father, Dr. Stya Paul at this special function. Mr. Kalraj Mishra, Honourable Union Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises was the esteemed Chief Guest for the occasion.

Dr. Stya Paul (Distinguished Industrialist, Educationist, Freedom Fighter, Philanthropist & a true ‘Karmayogi’) is the Founder of the Apeejay Education Society, which now runs 24 institutions across the country, comprising schools and institutions of higher learning. He is also the Founder Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University and the inspiration for the greater Apeejay Stya & Svran Group.

Dr. Stya Paul’s legacy of excellence is being carried forward by his daughter and only child, Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia. Mrs. Berlia is a leading woman entrepreneur and educationist of the country. Spearheading the Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Mrs. Berlia has earned accolades for her professional approach to building a diverse range of businesses with a focused culture of innovation and decision-making.

“My father was one of the foremost industrialists to recognise the great role that industry could play in providing quality education”, said Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Co-Promoter & President, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group; Chairman, Apeejay Education Society; Co-Founder & Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University and Chairperson, Apeejay Stya Education Research Foundation.

Mrs. Berlia added, “Dr Stya Paul had the qualities of hard work, fearlessness and love for truth. He was a positive thinker who faced all of life’s vicissitudes with a never-say-die attitude. On the occasion of his birth anniversary, let us celebrate both what he was, and what he stood for.”

Mr. Kalraj Mishra, Honourable Union Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises opined, “The life of Dr. Stya Paul is a perfect example of someone who could successfully grow from a ‘micro’ to a ‘large’ enterprise, based on his determination, drive and far-sightedness”. He further added that Dr. Stya Paul, who was afflicted with polio, did not let any limitation, whether physical or otherwise to come in the way of his goals.

In tune with the affinity of the Apeejay Education Society (AES) with the heritage, culture and the performing arts, the special day - fondly remembered as Founder’s Day was marked by a spectacular internationally acclaimed dance drama presentation ‘Krishna’ by the Shriram Bhartiya Kala Kendra, Delhi. This was preceded by a scintillating Sarod Recital by Dr. Neha Berlia, Member, Management Board, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group and granddaughter of Dr. Stya Paul.

The Event was attended by a large august gathering comprising eminent dignitaries, students, alumni & teachers from various Apeejay Schools & Higher Institutions, parents and Rotarians, among other distinguished guests.
