It is the capacity to do work. In other sense, we can say that, if any object works it has the energy.

  • Potential energy :

It is the amount of energy possessed by any object at the state of rest.

Example :

Energy possessed by a streched spring of a toy.

★Energy of a standing bus.

So, anything which is at rest, can be said to have potential energy.

  • Kinetic energy :

It is the amount of energy, possessed by an object in the state of motion.

Example :

Energy of flowing water.

★Energy of running player.

So, anything which is in the state of motion , can said to have Kinetic energy.

  • Mechanical energy :

Energy of any object is set mechanical if it possesses both potential and kinetic energy.

Example :

Energy possessed by ceiling fan.
