Hey guys,

Amravati was originally part of the Deogiri Kingdom in the thirteenth century. Due to dense forests, mountain ranges and craggy terrains of the region, Amravati was sparsely populated. However, it was a famous pilgrimage center and people from near and far came to pay homage to Goddess Ambadevi. A crippling famine gripped the region in the fourteenth century, resulting in a massive number of casualties. The region came under the Mughal rule in the sixteenth century when Aurangzeb was the emperor. Aurangzeb constructed the Jumma Masjid and slowly people belonging to the Islamic faith started settling here. After Aurangzeb's death, the region was passed into the hands of the Marathas, and King Chhatrapati Sahoo Maharaj gifted Badnera and Amravati to Ranoji Bhonsle in 1722, under whose able leadership the city grew in prosperity. During the nineteenth century, Amravati came under the British rule - initially, it was ruled by the Nizams on behalf of the British and later on by the East India Company. Amravati also plays a significant part in India’s struggle for freedom
