Horticulture is, at the most basic level, the science or art of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, or ornamental plants. Etymologically, the term can be broken down into two Latin words: hortus (meaning "garden") and cultus(which means "tilling"). Master Gardeners are well-versed in this field, but its full definition actually extends beyond what we would normally think of as gardening or agriculture.

Horticulture has been defined as the culture of plants for food, comfort and beauty.A more precise definition can be given as "The cultivation, processing, and sale of fruits, nuts, vegetables, ornamental plants, and flowers as well as many additional services". It also includes plant conservation, landscape managemennt , soil management, landscape and garden design, construction, and maintenance, and archoriculture. In contrast the agriculture, horticulture does not include land scale occupation or animal husbandaries
