Sher Shah defeated Humayun in the battle of chausa (1539) and the battle of Kannauj (1540). These battles led to a lot of bloodshed. After this battle Humayun fled to Iran and Sher Shah Suri occupied Delhi . However, it was in Iran that Humayun received help of the bairam Khan ,a loyal official of the Mughal Empire. With his help and guidance Humayun again invaded India in 1554 A.D. and occupied most of Punjab and defeated sher Shah Suri in the battle of sirhind.

The Battle of Chausa was a notable military engagement between the Mughal emperor, Humayun, and the Afghan, Sher Shah Suri. It was fought on 26 June 1539 at Chausa, 10 miles southwest of Buxar in modern-day Bihar, India. Humayun escaped from the battlefield to save his life. Sher Shah was victorious and crowned himself Farīd al-Dīn Shēr Shah.
