Indian armed forces are divided into three parts – Indian army, Indian Airforce and the Indian Navy. Indian army is the land-based unit, while Indian Airforce deals in air defence and Indian Navy is the naval unit. Our Indian army is the second largest in the world with about 1.23 million personnel on active rolls and another 9.6 lakhs in reserves.

Indian army is mainly responsible to protect the country against land based attacks. It also lends a helping hand to other agencies in dealing with terrorism, tackling emergency situations in the country and also rescuing people in case of natural calamities like flood, earthquake etc.

British rule) had participated in World War I and II. After independence it has also fought many full-fledged wars like the Kargil war (1999), Bangladesh liberation war (1971), India -Pakistan war (1965), India-China war (1962) and first Kashmir war (1947). Besides these, Indian army has also handled some smaller conflicts like Siachen conflict (1984), Operation Polo (1948), India-China conflict (1967) etc.

There is no doubt that our Indian army is one of the best armies in the world.

Indian Army : the backbone of the Nation

"Our flag doesn't fly because the wind moves it ,
It Flies with the last breath of each solider
Who died protecting it !"

♦Today , we are sitting safely in our homes : with a sense of security and protection ! Why ? This is all because we know that our brave soldiers are there to guard our borders . Indian Army Day - observed on 15th January is the great occasion to pay homage and tribute to each soul who sacrificed his life for the sake of the Nation . Indian soldiers - are there to guard us 24×7 ! When it comes to protecting his motherland , nothing can refrain a soldier from doing that duty !

=> Although we need to remember their sacrifices each and every day , but this day is specially dedicated to the ones who didn't care for their own life in front of the Nation . though It is needless to say , the Army upholds the security as well as the prestige of the Nation . We shouldn't fail to remember the big role they play!

→"Unless You've been a soldier ,
You just won't understand !
The things they've seen and done ,
For the sake of this Land !! "

=> The time when you are celebrating occasions with your family , they are busy fighting and protecting the borders ! They sacrifice their happiness for our safety .With each passing day , so many of the soldiers lose their precious life !

★The Hero of the kargil war of 1999 , Captain Vikram Batra remarked ,

"Either I will come back after hoisting the tricolor
Or I will come back wrapped in it !!
But I will be back for sure !"

★ A salute to their bravery and courage ! Now talking of 15th January , it is indeed one of the most remarkable day , each one of us needs to remember ! It is especially marked in remembrance of Lieutenant General of India , K. M Carriappa - who was the first Army's Commander in chief . A great function is held at the capital city , New Delhi . Being an Indian , each one of us should be proud of having one of the strongest armed forces of the world !!

On that note , I'd conclude my speech with the following lines -

"Be proud of the ones who serve the country ,
Keep in memory the ones we've lost !
For the freedom you have today ,
They did pay the awful cost !!"

★Jai Jawan !
★Jai Kisan !
★Jai Hindustan !

 Thank You !!
