Answer:

Indira point is a village in the Nicobar district of Andaman and Nicobar Island. It is located in the great Nicobar tehsil. The village is named as Indira point after former prime minister Indira Gandhi. The point was formerly known as Pygmalion point and Parsons point. It was renamed in honour of Indira Gandhi in 1980's. The announcement was made by the local member of parliament.

Although Kaniyakumari is identified as the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent , Indira Point was further south till the tsunami in 2004 in the Indian Ocean beseiged its area, partly submerging the lighthouse.
