Answer:
Story telling is truly an art. A story well written. (or a story well told) captivates the mind and imagination of the reader/listener.
Iswaran, for example, could take an absolutely normal incident in his life, and turn it into an amazing story that listeners would listen with rapt attention.
Iswaran himself was often held in thrall by popular Tamil thrillers, due to the marvelous skill of the writers.
Maya Angelou once said, "There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."
Iswaran lived up to this quote. He would often tell a super-exciting story, then when the audience's mind goes like "What happens next?" and the listener is filled with suspense, Iswaran would mutter some excuse and leave the listener hanging. Then after a while, he would return, and was urged by the listener (Mahendra) to continue the story.
This is tough, especially since if the story is boring. You need excellent ideas, an excellent plot, an excellent story, and a talent to capture the reader/listener's attention.
Storytelling is an art. And just like most arts, it requires practise.
But in the end, we master the art. Just like Iswaran mastered the art of storytelling.
