Decisions related to family size are motivated by people's aspirations and resources. In a large segment of Indian society, there is pressure on the young couples especially, the females to
prove their fertility and bear male children.
Undoubtedly, children are a valuable component of the family. However, unplanned pregnancy may compromise the health and well being of both the mother and the child. In addition, if the parents
are not ready to provide for the child both in economic and emotional terms, the child may not get the opportunities for holistic growth and development.
