metal are used for making utensils, jewellery.they are good conductor of heat and electricity
non metals are used for making plastic toys, switch .they are bad conductor of heat and electricity
Answer:
Hey mate
Here is your answer
Metals :-The material which are shiny, flexible and conduct heat or electricity are classified as metals .
Example - Iron, aluminium, copper, mercury, zinc, tin, lead, gold, silver and platinum are some examples of metals.
Non -metal :- The substance which do not have shine and cannot be bent, may burn but do not conduct heat easily are classified as non -metal.
Example :-Carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulpher are some examples of non -metal.
Physical properties of Metals :-
1- Hardness :- Metal are generally hard and strong except sodium, potassium and rubidium, which are soft and can be cut easily with a knife.
2- Physical state :- Metal are generally solid at room temperature. Mercury is the only metal is found in liquid state at room temperature.
3- Conductivity - All metal conduct heat and electricity.
Three very good conductor of electricity are silver, copper and aluminium.
Silver is used for making electrical contacts in computers.
4- Malleability - Malleability is a property of a material to be beaten into sheets. Metals on being hammered or compressed can be flattend to change into sheets.
5- Ductility :-Ductility is the property that allows material to be drawn into wires. Electrical wires are made of thin strands of copper or aluminium.
6- Melting and Bolling Points - Metals generally have high melting and boiling point. This allows metals to be moulded into different shapes by heating and cooling.
However, sodium and potassium have low melting points.
Physical properties of Non -metals -
1- Hardness -Non -metals are usually soft. However, the hardest substance found in diamond, which is a form of non -metal 'carbon '.
2- Sonorous -Non -metal do not produce sound when struck with a hard material.
3- Lustre - Non -metal do not have lustre. They have dull appearance. But some exceptions like graphite, diamond and iodine have crystal shine.
4- Malleability - Non -metal are not malleable. They break into pieces if beaten by a hammer.
5- Ductility - Non -metal are non -ductile. They cannot be draw into wires.
6- Conductivity -Non metal are bad conductor of heat and electricity expect graphite, which is a good conductor of heat and electricity.
7- Melting point - Non -metal usually have low melting point.
