Preparation of soil- The upper layer of the Earth is called soil. The crop plants are grown in soil. Soil provides minerals, water, air, humus and support to the plants. Preparation of soil is the first step in cultivating a crop for food production. The soil is prepared for sowing the seeds of the crop by Loosening and turning of the soil.
Sowing- The process of scattering seeds or putting seeds in soil to germinate is called sowing. Seeds are sown in two ways- Broadcasting and Drill sowing.
Weeding- In crop field, many other plants grow along with the crops. These unwanted and uncultivated plants are called weeds. Some common weeds are wild oats, amaranths etc.
Weeding can be done in two ways- Manual weeding and Chemical weeding.
Threshing- The process of separating grains from the harvested crop is called threshing. Threshing can be done manually by striking/ beating the harvested crop against a hard surface. In large farms, a motorized machine called thresher is also used for the threshing process
