Power sharing is when power of decision making in a country is divided into small groups. It is an important part of a democratic system of government. 

The power sharing in Sri Lanka and Belgium is the following: 

(i) Ethnic Groups:   
     
               Sri Lanka:
→ Sinhalese - 73.8%
                                 → Moors - 7.2%
                                 → Tamils- 18.5%
                                 → Sri Lankan Tamils - 70%
                                 → Indian Tamils - 30%
                                 → Others - 0.5%
 
               Belgium:  → Flemings - 59%
                                → Walloons - 40%
                                → Germans - 1% 

(ii) Political History: 
 
             Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka was ruled a local dynasty but was taken over                                    by the Dutch, French in the 12th Century. It was finally                                    taken over by the British in the 16th Century. 

             Belgium:  In 1830, Belgium got independence from the                                                    Netherlands. Most people in the country are Dutch                                          speaking who occupy the North while the French are in                                    the South.

(iii) Role in Government: 

           Sri Lanka: The Sinhalese are the majority as the government is                                        majoritarianist.

           Belgium: There is representation of all ethnic groups in the                                              government after the establishment of Constitution with                                    four amendments.
