Well joke aside, India and Sri Lanka share a relationship that is more than 2,500 years old since the first point of contact, both nations have built a relation upon a legacy of religious, cultural, intellectual and linguistic interaction. In the first three decades since India and Sri Lanka gained independence both shared a mutual respect and cordial relations. The 1980s was a period when the relations soured between both the countries, with armed resurgences in Sri Lanka and India’s alleged involvement in training Lankan Tamil Tiger Eelam (LTTE), who were fighting for the rights of the oppressed Tamil population in the country.THEN IN 1987 A PEACE ACCORD WAS SIGNED BETWEEN THEM, as the involvement of India was being a problem for Sri Lankan Gov,t.
After nearly three-decades, the armed conflict between Sri Lankan forces and the LTTE finally came to an end in May 2009. India was always supportive of the Sri Lankan government’s right to act against the armed insurgents in the country. The Indian government conveyed its deepest concern at the plight of Tamil civilian population at every point.
Also in economic realtion with Sri Lanka, India is the third largest export country for Sri Lanka, with exports to India averaged at 5218.24 USD Million from 1957 till 2018.
Hope it helps, Most of it I have written by myself.

India's relation with srilanka
Srilanka is an island country situated in th indian ocean towards the south of india. it got freedom in 1948 .Since times immemorial ,india & srilanka have cultural, ethenic& economic relations. Both were decolonised almost at the same tym & remain democratic till today .A major irritant in the relation b/w the two countries has been the treatment of tamil speaking minorities by the srilankan govt..
the large scale influx of srilankan tamil refugees into india posed a special problem.this led to a more active intervention by india which entered into an agreement with srilanka & tamil militants to maintain peace on the island.India sending its armies to keep peace in srilanka & the assassination of former of prime minister Rajiv gandhi by tamil militants . Eventually india decided not to interfere when the srilankan govt. began an all out war against the tamil militants which caused immense bloodshed & violation of human rights .This enabled srilanka to finally bring a cessation of military conflict on the island..
