Deccan Policy of Shah Jahan. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan secured a positive advance in the extension of his authority over the Deccan during his reign of over 28 years. In his reign the Nizam Shahi kingdom came to an end and the Qutb Shah and the Adil Shah lost their sovereignty and parts of their territory.

To bring Ahmadnagar, Bijapur and Golconda under his control, Shah Jahan made prince Aurangzeb, the Subedar of the Deccan. In 1633 AD Ahmadnagar was annexed to the Mughal Empire. Bijapur submitted to the Mughal emperor in 1636 AD, by paying a heavy tribute (20 lakhs ) to the emperor. But, both these states could not be annexed to the Mughal Empire due to some reasons. Meanwhile the Marathas were also becoming powerful.
