Subatomie particles : Dalton's atomic theory was able to explain the laws of chemical combination successfully. However,it failed to explain some properties of matter. For example, it could not explain whysubstances like glass or ebonite when rubbedwith silk or fur, generate electricity. Discoveryof subatomic particles in late nineteenth and early twentieth century set a blow to Dalton's atomic model of hard sphere. Three important subatomic particles which are of concern to were found. Chemistry are proton, electron and neutron. Proton and neutron are present in the atomic nucleus and together are called nucleons. Electrons are present in the extranuclear part of an atom. The properties of electron, proton and neutron are summarised

AnSweR:

• The major exception of the Dalton's theory. Which states that atoms are indivisible that they cannot be further divided.

•The smallest components of the atom are called subatomic particles. The atom is further divided into three subatomic particles.

Following are the three subatomic particles:

\longrightarrow\sf{Proton:}The positive charge present in the nucleus of the atom.

\longrightarrow\sf{Nuetron:}The neutral charge present in the nucleus of the cell.

\longrightarrow\sf{Electron:}The negative charge revolves around the nucleus of the cell.

•The total mass of the atom is : Nuetron+proton or mass of the nucleus.

• The atomic number of the atom is : Number of the protons present in the atom.
