Explanation:the kingdom of manipur was outside the administration of assam. Since many years manipur was recognized as a nayive kingdom under britiah protection. In 1890 , an internal quarrel broke out in the manipuri royal family for the throne. After that the king surachandra sat on the the throne of manipur. Thereafter the british recognized kulachandra as the king of manipur and began to put pressure on him to banish his commander-in- chief , Tikendrajit who was the main leader of the anti- british revolt which was secretly going on from the kingdom. But to banish the popular leader was not an easy task for kulachandra.
When J.W Quinton and four other european officers came to the manipur to capture Tikendrajit ,the people killed all of them.To avenge this invident a strong force by british was sent and they successfully captured him and put charges of anti- british activites, he was hanged.
In this way the british established their domination in the kingdom of manipur.
