The different types of blood cells are -

Red Blood Cells (RBCs) -

  • They are red in colour due to the presence of a red pigment called haemoglobin
  • They have a lifespan of 120 days
  • They are mainly responsible for the transport of respiratory gases.

White Blood Cells (WBCs) -

  • They are colourless.
  • They are responsible for protecting the body against germs

Platelets (Thrombocytes) -

  • They help in blood clotting
