Epidermis is one of the cover tissues on a plant surface. Cover tissues have a protection role: from external conditions such as drought, high and low temperature, strong insolation, mechanical damage, invasion of microorganism and other. There are two types of cover tissues:Primary cover tissue - emerges from protodermis, and create inside and outside covers. Outside cover is made of single-layer epidermis and hypodermis (multi-layered parenchyma tissue which emerge from the sub-epidermal bark parenchyma) together. Inside cover is made of endodermis, which separates transmissible organs from the bark parenchyma.Secondary cover tissue - emerges from the cork cambium - phellogen (secondary meristem tissue). These are cork (phellem) and dead bark (lila, lup, rhytidome).
