1) before british rule- before british rule education was given by sadhus/gurus. it was the tradition of students to live years in their teacher's ashram. they learned there vedic literature, subhaashitas, myths, religious texts and knowledge of weapons, with mantra chantings

2)in british rule- during british, british inroduced english medium schools for the first time, indians were at the forefront in learning english due to globalisation. if they got higher education, they used to get promoted to british companies which was great onor at that time
