Factors affecting heart rate :

  1. Frank Starling's Law :

The stroke volume of the heart is directly proportional to the ventricular systole.

2. Marey's Law :

The heart rate is inversely proportional to the blood pressure.

3. Age :

Small children and old people have higher heart rate than young individuals.

4. Gender :

Females have higher rate than males however the stroke volume in females is lower than males.

5. Calcium :

A mild increase in Ca2+ concentration increases heart rate but further increase in the calcium decreases the heart rate.

6. Sodium and Potassium concentration :

Increase in Na+ , K+ concentration decreases heart rate.

7. Temperature :

Increase in the body temperature increases heart rate.
