Dr. Kalam's father's name was Jainulabudeen, a boat owner. His father owned a ferry that took Hindu pilgrims back and forth between Rameswaram and the now-extinct Dhanushkodi. He came from a poor family. But he is a perfect example of becoming nobody to renowned personality due to his determination, hard work and persistent efforts.
