If Z is the molecular axis, then Px and Py orbitals are remaining on each C atom. Px orbital on one C atom overlaps with Px orbital on another C atom to form a pi bond. Similarly, Py orbital on one C atom overlaps with Py orbital on another C atom to form a pi bond. Thus a triple bond is formed between two C atoms.
