R.K. Narayan, in his 'Testament of a Walker' stresses on his liking for walking as he feels God has given him a pair of legs and he needs no petrol or gas to go from one place to another. He has maintained his habit of walking ever since he was in his youth when he walked ten miles a day. Later on, though it reduced, he didn't give it up. When he was confined indoors due to bad weather he paced up and down in his verandah. He happened to acquire an imported car, which he amusingly describes as the most meaningless things he's ever done. He felt he neither had an office nor he had to attend any outside engagements and the car was of no use for him.
