As the Earth rotates, it also moves, or revolves, around the Sun. The Earth's path around the Sun is called its orbit. It takes the Earth one year, or 365 1/4 days, to completely orbit the Sun. As the Earth orbits the Sun, the Moon orbits the Earth.

Earth spins around its axis, just as a top spins around its spindle. This spinning movement is called Earth's rotation. At the same time that the Earth spins on its axis, it also orbits, or revolves around the Sun. This movement is called revolution.

The Moon spins in space in a movement called rotation. Oddly enough, it also takes the Moon about 27 days to spin around once (which is much slower than Earth's rotation, which only takes 24 hours). That means the Moon goes all the way around Earth in the same amount of time it takes to spin around just once!
