The Persian 'Hindustan', and the Latin 'India', are both derived from the old-Persian term 'Hindu'. Hindu is Persian for Sindhu, the name for the Indus River in ancient Sanskrit. Thus, 'Hindustan' is 'the land beyond the Indus'.

Bharat also known as ;

¤ India
¤ Hindusthan

The original name for today's INDUS river was SINDHU in Sanskrit. When Persians came to Bharatthey started pronouncing it as HINDU instead as SINDHU for obvious reason as they were not familiar with the word ( One of the most significant SLIP OF TONGUE in mankind's history).
