As stated in its constitution, the government of Bangladesh is committed to conserving its natural resources through policy, law, strategies, international treaties, and conventions. When completed and authorised, the Bangladesh National Conservation Strategy (NCS) is expected to be a crucial government document that will serve as a guideline for this goal.

After Bangladesh ratified the World Conservation Strategy in 1980, the government began work on the Bangladesh National Conservation Strategy. The document's goals were as follows:

  • Provide recommendations for future resource usage and conservation.
  • Suggestions for government action to achieve resource conservation while maintaining the existing rate of resource utilisation and economic growth.

The government formed numerous working committees between 1980 and 1993 to create Bangladesh's NCS Document. In 1993, the Cabinet received a document from the NCS. After examining the document, the Cabinet requested that some of the information be updated, as Bangladesh had already signed and ratified a number of Multilateral Environmental Agreements by that time. The document has been updated and presented to the cabinet on multiple occasions since then.

The project's goal is to update the existing draught 18 sectoral reports and create seven new sectoral reports with the help of sectoral specialists.
