It reacts very slowly with hot water. It reacts with steam when being heated and gives hydrogen gas and metaloxide. They do not react with cold or hot water. They react with steam when being heated and give hydrogen gas and metal oxides.

Since water acids and alkalis contain hydrogen they from the cheapest raw materials preparation and manufacture of hydrogen.

hydrogen from cold water and metals

Reactive metals like potassium Sodium and Calcium react with cold water forming a corresponding hydroxide and evolving hydrogen the reactions are exothermic

Action of hydrogen with hot water and steam on metals

Only the magnesium reacts with water to form hydrogen and magnesium reacts slowly with boiling water from the base magnesium Hydroxide liberating hydrogen gas magnesium burns in steam with an intense white light liberating hydrogen gas and white Ash that is magnesium oxide magnesium oxide crumbles down due to heating for the exposing magnesium to steam results in the Liberation of hydrogen gas

Action of steam on metals

Aluminium zinc and iron react with water to form hydrogen aluminium reacts with steam to liberate hydrogen where as Jing is less reactive that is it has only when it is heated and steam is passed over red and iron is less reactive than zinc but red hot iron reacts with steam forming triferric tetroxide and hydrogen gas and also the action of steam on non metals carbon reacts with water to form water gas what is gas also contain carbon monoxide and hydrogen where we can say that hydrogen is formed
