Anne's relationship with her mother, Edith Frank, was very complicated as Anne never approved of her parenting skills. She believed that her mother was very sentimental and critical when she wanted her to be more affectionate and accepting. She is usually the voice of reason and diffused fights during their stay at the annexe. However, Anne has a great deal of admiration for her father, Mr. Otto Frank, and thinks of him as a kindred spirit. He had instilled a great sense of security in her as she trusts everything he did. He did not let the grave situation affect his daughter's studies and continued to engage her in projects which the family sometimes undertook during their stay at the annexe. Unlike her mother, Anne feels that her father can never do any wrong. However, she gets annoyed when her father treats her like a child and does not recognise her for the mature young woman she feels herself to be.
