India has two river chains:-
i) Himalayan rivers
ii) Peninsular rivers
Our northern plain gets water from three river systems.
The Ganga River System
The Brahmputra River System
The Indus River System
- These are perennial rivers.
- They have larger coarses.
- These rivers form delta where the meet the sea.
Peninsular Rivers
Major rivers are:-
Godavari river
Mahanadi river
Krishna river
Kaveri river
Narmada river
& Tapi river
- These are seasonal rivers.
- They have comparatively lower coarses.
- They also form delta but Narmada amd Tapi form estuaries when they meet the sea.
