let's start with a triangular pyramid it's usually a 3D solid with a base of triangular shape and all the lateral surfaces converge to a point which is called the top vertex
as a cuboid is made up of congruent rectangles placed one over another till it gets a thickness similarly a triangular pyramid can be thought of similar triangles(not congruent) placed one over another with decrease in size so that the topmost triangle can be thought of size whose area is very small. or it can be thought of similar triangles with a very less change in area placed one over another till the top most triangle is very small and the whole solid gets a thickness or height.
I told about triangular pyramid similarly you can think of pyramids with base having different sides like a square pyramid, hexagonal pyramid, pentagonal pyramid etc....
