Significance of Chilka Lake :

@It is a water lagoon spread in districts of Orissa like puri, khurda

@It flow in the bay of Bengal and covers a large distance of 1100 Km

@It is the largest coastal lagoon in India 

@The lake is home to various flora and fauna 

@This lagoon helps in the movement of approx. 160 migratory birds

The vast lake harbours 225 species of fish, a wide variety of phytoplankton, algae and aquatic plants, and also supports over 350 species of non-aquatic plants. The other areas where high concentrations of birds are recorded are Gerasara, Parikud Island, and the western shores of the Northern sector.

Chilika Lake is one of the best bird watching spots in India, and is also popular for fishing and angling.
