R.K.Narayan’s “A Heroics” a short-story which portrays a small boy as a hero.
Swami was a young boy and he loved his grandmother. He listened to her stories and used to sleep with her. But, his father wished him to be bold and forced him to sleep in his office.
His father wanted him to do some adventurous act and get rewards. But, Swami is too young to adventure something. He wanted to escape from his father. He was allowed to sleep in a separate room. One night, he had a nightmare of ghosts and he woke up.
Suddenly, he saw some intruder crossing him. He immediately held his legs, thinking that he was a ghost and cried for help. Everyone gathered and appreciated the brave act of Swami for capturing a thief. He was awarded and been invited to join in the police force. But, he wished to be a bus conductor or an engine driver. Thus, a small boy becomes a hero in this story.
